Dear Sacred Heart and St. Mary on the Lake,

A word from Bishop Boyea inviting us to join him for the year of the Family.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The family is the domestic church and the foundation of society. It is where future generations are born, educated, and formed, and where vocations to the priesthood and religious life most often take root. So, how can we help our families grow in holiness and happiness?

Beginning this September, I invite you to join me in a Year of the Family.

This new weekly catechetical series, introduced by me, will feature short films showcasing families from across the Diocese of Lansing. Each family will share how they are striving to live the Catholic faith more fully in their daily lives. Throughout the year, the series will explore family prayer, education, liturgical living, hospitality, discipline, and works of charity.

My sincere prayer is that the Year of the Family will encourage and inspire our families to live in ever greater harmony with God and with one another.

To sign up, simply text YOTF to 84576 or subscribe by email.

I am, sincerely yours in Christ,

These are truly excellent resources to help all of our families develop the habits that lead to lives rooted in relationship with the Lord.  I know our families feel this invitation but also can feel overwhelmed trying to figure out the what and the how.  These are great weekly lessons sharing what has worked well for them and may work well for you too.  You will recognize Fr. Jack Jobst in the first video from his internship summer he spent with us.  This video highlights the importance of the family meal.  Be enriched!

AC update: Consumers was supposed to come the first week of September but had to pull their crews because the storms that blew through Michigan.  They are now scheduled to come September 25th.  They will have the power turned off to the Church for much of the day following our 9am Mass as they pull new lines and get things hooked up.  May there not be any storms that week!  While I doubt we will need AC for 2026, here is to a cooler 2027!

God Bless, Fr. Todd
